I’m not sure how this can help industry, but the trend towards internet taxation is still moving along. Some States believe that internet transactions should be taxed. But I think that taxation should be representative of the protections offered by the state in which they are taxed, and Federal taxation is at a different level. The phrase “No Taxation without Representation” should hold true. In essence, the bill that is being proposed would tax every transaction and the states in which the transactions take place would get a portion. I don’t see this working out. It will definitely complication life for small retailers and turn the online environment into a typical good-ole-boys club that is more protective of its turf than a growth industry.
