So, awhile back I was given a gift certificate from a family member (thanks Jody) and I was going to use it to get something at RitzCamera.com yesterday. I go charging into the site and look around and find what I’m looking for, but realize that the price is somewhere near $250 higher than several other stores. or resellers. I was pretty astonished. And then I thought they’d price match, which they do, woo hoo! But there is always a catch and this one is a doozy.
Okay, first, it has to be a qualified internet retailer and that means the reseller has to be listed on the manufacturers site. Well, I’m not sure how much time this company spends online, but nearly no one puts a qualified retailer list online.
Then, and this one makes me chuckle… the product has to be identical in offer. That is no big deal, but here is the catch on this particular one; If Ritz Camera decides to attach anything, such as paper, a strap, or anything they see fit to attach to the product, well, they aren’t identical anymore.
There are other caveats, such as the fact that it must be done within 3 days from the purchase, they don’t do it immediately at the store or online, and the “Low Prices, Guarantee” they are so proud of does not apply when you use coupons or promo offers or non-US warranted produc… oh, nevermind, here is everything. I’m just dumbfounded.

Oh, then I see this gem right before I leave the site:
“In most cases we can match the pricing submitted by a customer due to large buying power and inventory volume. However, when the price request goes below our cost we will not honor the lower pricing because it is usually the result of unethical selling practices such as[.]” They then go on to qualify their price matching guarantee.
