FCC Chief – Julius Genachowski?

by James Hatch on January 13, 2009

So, the Wall Street Journal‘s Amy Schatz and Laura Meckler has a story about the possibility of Julius Genachowski becoming the FCC Chief and based on what I’ve learned, it sounds like a great idea. Genachowski is young at 46, well versed in technology, pro-”net neutrality”, and has a JD. My only concern continues to be the way that people move along together to their mutual benefit. Sort of a quid pro quo. You see, Obama and Genachowski both went to Harvard, were both on the Harvard Law Review where Barack headed it at the time, and Genachowski was a notes editor according to his Wikipedia entry. Genachowski became the Chairman of the TMT working group, and is part of the Obama transition team.

If change and hope are the reason why Obama was elected, this is a facet that I don’t appreciate witnessing. I would have much more appreciation for the assignment should there have been no direct connection, ethically speaking, the term cronyism pops up albe it that cronyism is supposed to reflect a lack of qualifications in the appointment, and was a very big issue with the Bush administration a la Brownie and New Orleans debacle. Genachowski appears to be very well suited for the job, combining business acumen, a jurist ability to reason out a situation, and technological know-how to make well informed decisions for the appointment.
