Google Latitude; be wary of your presence.

by James Hatch on February 4, 2009

I love Google. The search results at Google trump Live everytime I do a search. But Google Latitude is just too much information, at least they allow you to opt-in. Latitude, according to The Official Google Blog, lets you notify others of your location via your mobile phone. And even gives examples such as “notice that a buddy is in town for the weekend” which again, is great, as long as it isn’t abused in some way.
I had written this back on the 4th, but hesitated. I thought, maybe I’m just overstating things, but recent commentary on this has made me decide to post my thought about it. Just like any enabling technology, it isn’t the good deeds that are done with it that matter to some, it is the bad deeds and abuse that can take place.
I’m more interested in the good, but as I tell people who complain about attorneys being evil; If people were good, we wouldn’t need laws.
