According to Brett J. Blackledge and Richard Alonso-Zaldivar who reports for the AP, the Peanut Corporation of America had a positive test, and shipped product while awaiting a second test which confirmed salmonella.
This is atrocious behavior, the ethical decision would have been to wait for the test, especially since they knew there was a spec test that showed infection. Since they knowingly shipped the product, shouldn’t they be held accountable in civil court for the harm done to survivors, and in both civil and criminal court for the deaths of consumers. Not to mention criminal court for making a horribly unethical decision for taking profit over the public health.
We’re hearing about a lot of businesses in America that are doing dispicable things lately, and it doesn’t encourage foreign investment. That is just as harmful to the economy as predatory lending. We need an entire shift of ethical policy and accountability.
