Google WAVE Developer Preview at Google i/o 2009

The ability for Google to reach Critical Mass is amazing. They can go from zero to critical mass in just a 2 hour presentation of a developer only release of a new product. I’m watching the presentation right now, and it integrates the common sense functionality of what we all do every day but in one application instead of dozens. Then they say they are opening the platform up for the open source community, and have a protocol portion that I haven’t seen yet.
Update: The single most power function is the real-time functionality. Multiple users, editing multiple elements, in real-time… quickly. This will make my Aeryth project a lot more interesting.
Update: Real-time, again, is THE key feature in its spellchecker. Back, more than 10 years ago, I attempted to integrate a spell checking function into a browser so that I could correct client webpages when a previous webmaster created errors. Basically, it would show me the errors and I could go through it and make corrections. Google has taken it to a real-time function while editing, similar to Microsofts functionality, but it does it with a bit more intuition. Apparently learning the users tendancy to make a typo and the particular use.
More to come…
