Pixel Qi 3Qi gets a look-see, sounds great.

by James Hatch on June 2, 2009

So, SlashGear got a look at the Pixel Qi 3Qi [that Qi is pronounced "Chee" and not "Que-Eye"]. It is a hybrid display of LCD and e-ink and currently on display at Computex. The video that SlashGear took is pretty amazing. What is really amazing is that Pixel Qi took off the shelf laptops and stuffed their screen into the same footprint that already exists, modified the case so they could turn off the backlight completely, and thus, save the battery while maintaining readability. Frankly, this is the best thing since e-Ink, and they have a color version of their technology as well. It is pretty amazing, I hope it gets adopted… at least until something better comes along. But that is key to innovation, the idea that a competitor can come out of the woodwork and take your business to task.
