Viliv X70 and S5 – UMPC's are great, like giant iPhones.

by James Hatch on June 3, 2009

The latest generation of UMPC platform technology includes 3G, so you can use it on the AT&T network which is good since that is what I use. But JKontheRun’s James Kendrick has a video preview of the Viliv X70 which is being announced at Computex. I like the UMPC format so much, I purchased the domain UMPCFAN.COM but I was jaded by an experience with the Samsung Q1 when it was first released and I haven’t gone back. But I would if I can get the responsiveness of the iPhone touchscreen on a UMPC format. A solid, inflexible screen which high sensitivity. I’ve not experienced a UMPC that maintains its sensitivity towards the perimeter of the screen. It ALWAYS falls off and you can see why when you look at the screen while touching it. The digitizer is floating above the glass and it flexes. That little flex becomes more pronounced as you move to the edge. I’ve not used the Viliv models, but I suspect the same will take place there.
