HP Tablet is a Pseudo tablet, also, make a mental note… do not read everything you see in a teleprompter.

I was reading a blurb from VentureBeat.com about how the HP DreamScreen tablet/hybrid device is what they call “long-awaited” device (the video in on this page is the reason for the title, listen at around the 25 second mark) and a surprise from HP. It really isn’t. HP has been working on a Tablet for awhile, at least, rumors have been floating around. To compare it to an Apple Tablet as perceived by the rumor mill is completely insane. The HP DreamScreen is not a fully functional computer. The Apple Tablet is rumored to be able to run everything in the iTunes App library, and perhaps everything OS X can natively. We’ll see. But regardless, the two devices need to be discussed in different worlds, let alone in the same paragraph. I’m jumping the gun when I say this, but it also has some experience with HP products [several computers, tablets, handhelds] and unless they’ve done something amazing with their fabrication technology. This thing will feel like an al dente pasta. Sure, it looks firm, but when you touch it… well, its squishy. Every computer from HP I have ever had would flex when I pick it up. At $300, it is a magical price point for a technophile. A lot of function for a small price and neat-oh factor. But it is bulky. A great front end, but turn it around and you have this Harry Potter contraption bolted on to the back of a streamlined device. I half expect the Weasleys to come poofing out from the SD port. I’ll be passing on this.

Come on Apple, release a tablet for $600 and show them what you’ve got as a measuring stick for quality and design. I’ve gone Apple Fanboi!

[Link to HP's DreamScreen page] I put this in “Gadget” because that is all it is, but there sure seems to be a lot of hype about it.
