BBC NEWS has a great summary of opinions. A brewery called BrewDog comes out with Tokyo* [Tokyo Star] beer which is over 18% alcohol and are called irresponsible. So, in exchange for that critique, they create a brew that is 1.1% alcohol and call it NannyState.
Yes, there are serious alcohol abuse issues in Scotland, but it isn’t because there is a high alcohol brew available. It is because there are people who would rather be drunk than sober, solve that problem and you can imbibe Tokyo* responsibly anytime you want. And if anything has occurred, I would hazard a guess to say that demand for Tokyo* outside of Scotland has increased. Furthermore, it was a limited run of 3,000 bottles. Bottles you would sip because they are £10. Like a good bottle of rum, you don’t chug it down, you sip it, enjoy the nuances within each sample.
