I don’t know what to think about this. I’ve only been a Mac user for just about 4 months, but I’m a technophile nonetheless. When I heard about this art project being labeled a trojan/virus/threat to Mac users, I laughed.
As reports have said, it states what it does before you download it and before you launch it. Softpedia has a title for their article stating “Mac Trojan Masked as Game” which isn’t exactly accurate, Symantec calls it a Trojan [its not a trojan if it tells you that you are going to be deleting files if you kill aliens], and Cult of Mac appears to be the only level headed report.
This game is along the same line of a game I heard about back in 2003 or so wherein you would try to eliminate terrorists, but undoubtedly would catch innocent people in the blast radius of your counter attacks, which would create additional terrorists because of the innocent life you took. It simply would overpower you because for every 10 terrorists you take out, 30 more would be created. In this case, as you delete aliens, you are negatively reinforced for your violent ways. Quite the opposite of the typical game where you gain points or lives as you take them.
Social statement indeed, virus or trojan it is not.
