"Within Months" – Murdoch. Google, feel free to pull "his" content now.

by James Hatch on November 13, 2009

Come on Google. There is being diplomatic and then there is just standing around at the beach having dirt kicked in your face and your girlfriend taken off by a bully. Sure, you can do better if your girlfriend would leave you for a bully, but why take the dirt kicking bully as just a misunderstood hoodlum who needs a hug?

Pull the trigger now, show your market making dominance. You aren’t being evil. We know you have the unofficial motto of the company that does no evil, but you are allowing some serious credibility issues to ruin your good name.

If Murdoch feels “his” content is being stolen, and he is calling YOU a thief for taking “his” content, let him reflect on how much Google does for the distribution and delivery of consumers. He’s obviously never heard of pass-along rates, and word of mouth. He’s also failed to realize that people will disclose a story openly and honestly [well, with as much risk averse bias that one can muster], to anyone who stumbles upon them unless influenced by a greater force. A lot of mumbo jumbo for – A person will talk unless threatened with a beating by their neighbor. In this day and age, Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, and Digg are the delivery methods of hundreds of thousands of users, readers and consumers.

Go ahead Google, help Murdoch realize his dream of diminished readership. Will it hurt your bottom line? Probably not as much as Murdoch thinks. The AP and Reuters is a primary source of news distribution, and the more consumers there are, the more the AP and Reuters benefits. Deals will be struck, and news will be consumed. Either by citizen reporters, direct from first responders, or through news distribution channels. Either way… the news will be delivered.
