TweetPhoto, an Ex-CEO, Arrington, Amateur Hour and the Streisand Effect.

by James Hatch on November 19, 2009

So, Mr. Arrington calls the events surrounding a now fired CEO from TweetPhoto and the challenge to a blogger to remove an on-the-record interview of said now fired CEO, “Amateur Hour” and I have to agree up until the law firm gets involved.

Here is my angle on this, and it comes from my own scale of amateur hour; That CEO should never have said anything about the money, criticized a strategic partner; suggesting that Kodak is slow to pay is disparaging, even harmful to potential partners if it is suggested they pay slow, which may or may not be a reality; you just don’t say it in a podcast from the inside; and disclosed internal actions on the record. It seems more like a marketing effort more than an interview about the merit of the company; TweetPhoto.

That being said, the blog itself is about start-up stories, so what do people expect? As CEO, he probably should have been pro every aspect of the company. It isn’t just a tiny project, it has massive traffic, people are falling over themselves using this service it seems. I haven’t heard anything bad about it other than this podcast. I’m hardly a Tweeter though, and don’t use TweetPhoto.

As an investor, Dan Caulfield has a portion of the company, so I guess in a nutshell; he should have been a cheerleader and not criticize the company in any way. Even if it is a reality. For what it is worth, it comes down to the Streisand Effect once again. The law firm tries to silence a blogger and podcast, and it becomes even more public than if they had just been silent themselves. The guy was fired as CEO, the damage was already done, and those who could possibly know about the issues he spoke of, already knew because it doesn’t seem very important to him to not disclose internal machinations of TweetPhoto. *shrug*
