I woke up today with a thought rumbling around in my head. I haven’t looked into it yet, but I thought I would write it down here. It happens from time to time; just when I wake up… just before I fall asleep… before and after Tae Kwon Do… when I’m SCUBA diving… when I’m in the show(?). Big thoughts penetrate the reality of daily stress. Here is this thought:
What is Gravity?
I understand that for the most part speed predicts why a body in orbit remains in orbit, a kind of stasis where the body doesn’t fall into the body it orbits, but this led to another thought…
If the Moon orbits the Earth, and Earth orbits the Sun, and the Sun orbits the super-gravitational body (Black Hole) at the center of the Milky Way Galaxy… is the Galaxy orbiting something else such as the center of the Universe. Since we are said to know that the universe is expanding (Red Shift), we should be able to measure the distance between us and the nearest galaxy, then calculate the rate of movement. Then, use mathematics to calculate the point of convergence. Be it the center of the Universe, or otherwise. This should show if we are rotating while expanding as well, or shooting out at a somewhat straight line from the center of the Universe. What started all of this rotation/orbiting?
I wish I knew the math that Copernicus, Newton, Einstein, Hawking, and many others had and have a grasp of.
All that because I woke up wondering about… Gravity. Perhaps it is because I slipped on ice while shoveling snow out of a parking spot, one that I didn’t even use. Then my car had a flat tire which I can’t repair (broken hand), oh and I bent my snow shovel after the handle broke which happened before I slipped. Now I’ve had X-rays, and an MR,, and a trip to the ER at 4am [12 hours after the slip when I figured it wasn't just a sprain], and this happened on Xmas Eve with the ER trip on Xmas [Merry Christmas FMH].
