Adobe has been railing against Apple because Apple is basically telling Adobe that it can fly a kite. Most people know that Flash is a bloated architecture that was great in the 90′s when people wanted to glitz and glam their sites up. I would say tart them up, but tart is a pretty old-school term. Look it up.

Anywho. Adobe continues its attempt to vilify Apple because of its closed architecture, and denial of everything Adobe Flash related. It uses developers of Flash as a battering ram. Because alone, Adobe is just screaming into the wind. Which makes Adobe feel okay for a little while, at least until the realization that no one really cares starts to dawn on them again. Then they rant again about developers being upset about Flash not being supported.

Here is how you solve the problem Adobe. Open source Flash. Everything about it. From developer tools to Flash CS5. Everything. Concentrate on your core solution. Photoshop. No one is better at that line of development. But Flash is an odd “cross platform” application. For some reason, every single time I load a page that has flash… every external drive on my system spins up. And I have 6 external hard drives at the moment. Why does it do that? I’ve asked that question in the past. But I doubt Adobe visits my blog.

So, Adobe, open source the engine and the tools and let everyone create and optimize the code, fix bugs, and create an environment that Apple can’t walk away from. Right now, Flash is dying. I don’t know anyone who uses it. I’m sure a large contingent does, but those sites are quickly left. The only thing I hear about Flash adoption is the number of browsers it is installed on. Which is kind of necessary, and easily installed on Windows because the page you surf to and happens to have Flash on it, directs you to download Flash. Installation is a click away. That ease of installation is guaranteed to get you an installed base. Too bad I haven’t touched flash since developing sites in the 90′s and I’ll never do it again.

Finally… why not support the Apple platform with as much energy as you do the Microsoft platform. You had Apple as a BFF in terms of content producers. But it sure seems like you turned your back on the platform. And in return, Apple has walked away too. The romance is gone. And I don’t think Apple really cares if you look back to see if Apple will turn around with a loving look in its eyes hoping that you too will want to give it another try.
