When I was younger, I thought I knew everything. Now I know that the more I learn, the more I see on the horizon.
So, when I completed my MBA in December, I realized I wanted to continue my education. Thankfully, my wife encourages me to do so. I’m not working for pay right now. I’m just writing my blogs and hobby projects while I’m seeking that career I want to do for the next 20 years. I have a lot of experience in a lot of areas. I’m focusing on analyst type positions which require a knowledge set that encompasses a broad range. That way you can provide solutions that may be out-of-sight of a standard business consultant. I did this type of work when I had my own company in California. Find a fire [in the business sense] and put it out with the proper solution. That was me. Whatever it was, I loved doing it.
Now, I’m going back to school, 5 months later and I wish I didn’t take a break. I’d be 5 months further ahead. I’m also writing up my personal statement to get into a Doctoral of Management program at University of Maryland University College where I got my Undergraduate degree. A great undergrad program that taught me a lot and allowed me to utilize my knowledge and trust in technology. A lot of standard brick-and-mortar educational systems frown upon anything that is distance based, but I think in most situations, the institution of face-to-face education is falling away because each generation is moving online.
Although I’m not the biggest fan of Facebook due to its policy on privacy, I have to say that it is very funny to keep hearing that Zuckerberg was a Harvard student. It is always mentioned within the first paragraph of any statement regarding Facebook. Harvard didn’t make the man, nor did it make Facebook. In fact, Facebook didn’t make itself, but that is just my knowledge of the past.
So, what am I going back to school for? I love technology, and it has been an underlying feature of everything I do since I was in 5th grade [Note: a long time], but I’ve never tried to translate my experience into academia. Since I’m not a programmer, I decided to pursue a second Masters in Information Technology while I pursue the Doctoral in Management. Together, it quantifies what was formerly just anecdotal evidence of my knowledge. Since my career goal is that of a technology, business, and ethics consultant/evangalist/analyst; I believe I’m on the correct track.
So, I’m off to continue my personal statement. Also, remember, this site is again going to be primarily for my musings on random things and my academic pursuits. I went through the MBA program so fast last year that I didn’t write that much regarding the program. This time, since it is in IT, I’m hoping that I’ll be able to post my activities daily.
