I’ve said it multiple times… I’m an old school computer user. Started on acoustic coupled modems before it was called the Internet, on up to multi-gigabit connections and faster. The birth, aging, and death of AOL, and now Facebook.
But throughout out all of this, the aspect of the Internet that I wanted most was that data was provided by content producers, but the consumption and window within said content is displayed, is mine. So, what I’m getting at is that the Internet needs to be raw data, and my browser decides how it is displayed. Right now, a site streams all of the glitter as well as the meat and potatoes. I just want the data, like an RSS feed provides no layout information for the data.
The entirety of the net needs to be as such.
Since I’m returning to academia in just two short weeks, I’m going to keep thinking about this as a possible project. I wouldn’t mind discussing it with someone though, so feel free to throw questions or comments.
