ohmTown.com – Some Theme Changes in Progress

If you go over to ohmTown.com right now, you’ll notice a big difference from the previous theme. I had always had problems with the previous theme that is still on some of the sub-sites. Pagelines Framework, now Pagelines DMS as they changed business models essentially deprecating the Framework in the process, never really wanted to work properly for me [and counter to what their quirky support-via-forum tech support suggested, I was not the only one including one of the support people which I showed the glitch on their very own site] and as such, never wanted to work with BuddyPress and bbPress.

So, after trying DMS and felt that it was a horrible solution for my tastes and I didn’t like the monthly bill as I wasn’t a developer and didn’t like the terms… wow, let me just say I didn’t like the decisions they made and the support they offered and the method of design presented by the DMS product. Dumping it after years of little-to-no support. I’m just one customer though, but for me, I’m moving on.

I’m moving ohmTown.com and its sub-sites to a completely different theme and its capabilities match what I need, including sharing data from the sub-sites and displaying them on the front page. I’ll soon be adding netcasts to each sub-site when the show is completed and a “live” link to each show when it goes live.

ohmTown is now simulcast on both Spreecast and Google Hangouts on Air, which makes things pretty simple and combined with the Google Hangout being imported into the YouTube account for ohmTown, things are getting really easy in terms of work flow.

The shows are about an hour long, at least, I hope to get into that range. I don’t edit the netcasts in post, so if they are rough, that is what you see. I simply don’t want to be “professional” because the talks are supposed to be fireside friendly chats with citizens or possible citizens of ohmTown.com, and I really don’t like today’s presentation of news. Today, it’s pretty much required to pack in a bunch of snippets to appeal to the greatest number of people across a broad swath of interests… in 30 minutes. Well, I want to spend an hour talking about one interesting story, if people are interested in doing so.

Anyway, I’ve got to get back to converting ohmTown over to a new paint job. Stop by and check it out.
